EXERCISE 4: READ THE TEXT AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS:

WHEN WOOD IS PLANED ALONG ITS GRAIN YOU SHOULD GET THIN SHAVINGS AS YOU PUSH THE PLANE IRON FORWARDS, LEAVING A SMOOTH SURFACE. THE DIRECTION OF THE GRAIN CAN BE WORKED OUT BY LOOKING AT THE EDGE OR THE SIDE OF A PIECE OF WOOD. YOU WILL SEE WOOD FIBRES RUNNING OUT OF THE SURFACE THAT IS BEING PLANED. WHERE THE WOOD FIBRES MEET THE SURFACE, THEY WILL LOOK POINTED. THE WAY THE POINT IS FACING SHOWS THE DIRECTION OF THE GRAIN.
